Introduction: The Parameters of Past Progress Note Summary (PAST_PROGRESS_NOTE_SUMMARY) popup allows the PrognoCIS team to configure how the AI-generated Past Visit Summary is built and presented for a practice. These parameters control which past encounters are selected during summary generation, how encounter selection is filtered, and what format the summary is displayed in by default when a provider opens the Past Visit Summary popup from the Encounter screen or the Home Page. Fields marked * are mandatory.

Field Description:

Appointments of Next X Days: Specifies how many days ahead the system should look when identifying scheduled appointments for which AI Past Visit Summaries should be pre-generated. For example, entering 1 instructs the system to pre-generate summaries for all appointments scheduled within the next 1 day from the current date. This is a mandatory field.

Number of Past X Visits: Specifies the maximum number of past encounters the AI should consider when generating the summary. For example, entering 3 instructs the AI to use only the 3 most recent qualifying past encounters, regardless of how many additional past encounters exist for the patient.

Match Attending Provider Specialty: When set to Yes, the AI considers only past encounters where the attending provider’s specialty matches the specialty of the provider on the scheduled appointment. Set to No to include encounters attended by providers of any specialty.

Match Encounter Type: When set to Yes, the AI considers only past encounters whose Encounter Type matches the Encounter Type on the scheduled appointment. Set to No to include encounters of any Encounter Type configured for inclusion. For example, if the scheduled appointment is of type Worker Comp Follow Up and this is set to Yes, only past Worker Comp Follow Up encounters are included.

Note: This setting takes priority over any Encounter Type associations configured at the Encounter Types Master level. Master-level associations are disregarded when this is set to Yes.

Match Encounter Case Number: When set to Yes, the AI considers only past encounters linked to the same Case Number as the scheduled appointment. Set to No to include encounters across all case numbers. This setting is particularly relevant for Workers’ Compensation workflows where each case is a distinct clinical episode.

Note: This setting takes priority over any Encounter Type associations configured at the Encounter Types Master level. Master-level associations are disregarded when this is set to Yes.

Generate Summary: Defines the default format in which the AI-generated summary is displayed when a provider opens the Past Visit Summary popup. The available options are:
  • Combined Summary — Produces a single consolidated narrative by merging information from all qualifying past encounters and eliminating duplicate clinical details.
  • Section-wise Summary — Organizes the output by clinical section (for example, Chief Complaint, HPI, Assessment, Plan, Medications), aggregating the same section type across all selected past encounters into a unified view. This is the default option.
  • Visit-wise Summary — Produces a separate AI-generated summary for each qualifying past encounter in chronological order, allowing providers to review how the patient’s condition evolved visit by visit.
Notes:
  • This setting defines only the default display format. Providers can switch between formats directly within the Past Visit Summary popup without changing this system-level default.
  • The Parameters of Past Progress Note Summary popup is configurable by the PrognoCIS team only. Practice-level users do not have direct access to these settings.
  • If no Encounter Types are associated at the Encounter Types Master level for a given Encounter Type, the AI considers all available Encounter Types when building the summary, subject to any active filter settings in this popup.
